The South Shall Rise Again

I went out to lunch today, something I rarely do anymore since putting gas in my car is stealing all my lunch money. And since I was treating myself I went to a local BBQ diner and pigged out (pardon the pun). But I was unable to enjoy my meal because there were three old farts sitting behind me talking politics. These were old, white men, born and raised in the South. And it wasn’t the fact that they were outspoken Republicans that bothered me. I actually enjoy discussing politics with people that have intelligent, well thought out positions. But this time I wasn’t in the conversation and they did not have well thought out ideas.

One man in particular was doing most of the talking. Here is a synopsis of his points:

1. Barrack Obama is a closet Muslim and will try to force the country to become Muslim.
2. Obama will relax the immigration laws so that terrorists can get into the country easier.
3. Bush should have taken away Obama’s passport so that he couldn’t go overseas.
4. Nancy Pelosi is an idiot and should just go home. (To her kitchen apparently. I kept waiting for him to mention that Pelosi’s a woman and that a woman couldn’t do that job, but I think for him that was just a given)

I’m a firm believer that everyone has a right to their own opinion, until their opinion is so stupid. These guys were just repeating talking points from Rush Limburger. They were exhibiting pure racial bias towards blacks and women. And I really just wanted to walk over and slap some sense into them.
